Forward in Faith update

The following Resolutions were passed by the Forward in Faith National Assembly, meeting in the Emmanuel Centre, London, on 19th & 20th October, 2007:

Resolution 2007/01

This Assembly gives thanks to God for the work and witness of RooT (Religious of orthodox Tradition) and asks those of its members present to convey its prayerful greetings to their brothers and sister who cannot be with us today.

The Assembly encourages Forward in Faith parishes and members to take steps actively to support and promote the Religious Life:

[i] by the formation of links with Traditionalist Communities and with members of RooT;

[ii] by regular intercession for an increase in vocations to the Religious Life, for Traditionalist Communities, and for the members of RooT;

[iii] by visiting Religious Communities;

[iv] by inviting Religious to share in the life of the parish on such occasions and at such frequency as might be appropriate;

[v] by encouraging men and women to

question if God might be calling them to

serve him as a Religious in His Church.

Proposed by Brother Augustine Thomas SSF

Seconded by the Reverend Ronald Crane

Resolution 2007/02

This Assembly notes with grave concern the Draft Ecclesiastical Offices (Terms of Service) Measure and Regulations currently before General Synod which would, if enacted, abolish the freehold, transfer the ownership of parsonages to the dioceses and introduce compulsory ministerial review leading to capability procedures.

Proposed by the Reverend Paul Benfield

Seconded by the Reverend Jonathan Redvers Harris

Resolution 2007/03

This Assembly thanks the Bishop of Manchester and the members of the Legislative Drafting Group for the manner in which they have approached their task and for the kindness and openness shown during a recent consultation to representatives of Forward in Faith and the Catholic Group in General Synod, and assures the members of the Group of its continued prayers for them as they continue their work.

Proposed by the Council of Forward in Faith

Resolution 2007/04

This Assembly acknowledges with gratitude the work of the Vocations Initiative over the last 10 years and in particular its annual Vocations Weekend which has supported and encouraged many of our members and others now ordained or currently in training for ordination.

The Assembly urges parishes and individual members actively to promote vocations to the priesthood by constant prayer and regular preaching and teaching.

Proposed by the Reverend Christopher Pearson Seconded by the Reverend Prebendary Sam Philpott

Resolution 2007/05

This Assembly:

[i] endorses the view of Credo Cymru, Forward in Faith Wales, that the Bill published by the Bench of Bishops of the Church in Wales in July of this year which would allow women to be ordained as bishops is both seriously defective in the lack of explicit and adequate provision for those unable to accept such a departure from the practice of the universal Church and dangerous because of the way it leaves those assured of pastoral care and support open to both civil and ecclesiastical prosecution;

[ii]            assures Credo Cymru, For-

ward in Faith Wales, that Forward in Faith will provide all that is needed in continued prayer, legal advice, practical assistance and financial support in seeking in the first instance to amend the Bill to remove its inadequacies and dangers, and if that should fail, in submission to the Archbishop of Canterbury's Panel of Reference and to challenge and review in the civil courts.

Proposed by the Reverend Alan Rabjohns Seconded by the Reverend Dr Geoffrey Kirk

Resolution 2007/06

This Assembly thanks the College of Deans for its interim report on the work being undertaken by its working parties and looks forward to receiving its final report at the National Assembly in 2008. Proposed by the Council of Forward in Faith

Resolution 2007/07

This Assembly receives the report of the Structures Sub Committee of the Council and accepts the recommendations numbered 1 to 29 contained therein.

Proposed by the Council of Forward in Faith

Resolution 2007/08

This Assembly sends its very best wishes to Oswald Clark on his 90th birthday next month, thanks him for his outstanding contribution to the orthodox faith, especially in the Catholic Group in General Synod, and wishes him much happiness on that day and thereafter.

Proposed by the Chairman of Forward in Faith

Resolution 2007/09

This Assembly notes with concern that the actions of the House of Bishops of The Episcopal Church consistently fail to match their words and assurances. The Assembly cannot agree with the Joint Standing Committee of the Anglican Consultative Council and the Primates' Meeting that its response to the Windsor Report and the Dar-es-Salaam communiqu was adequate or honourable.

Proposed by the Reverend Dr Geoffrey Kirk Seconded by the Reverend Prebendary Sam Philpott
