Atheism is a mistake
Augustine said our God is out of time
As I am nearly, but
I do not think I am turning into a god.
The gods are ephemeral anyhow
Except unto themselves
(And that's what makes them seem eternal)
Atheism is a mistake for
Who can doubt that randy Aphrodite,
Or Mars, after all the slaughter?
But Pallas Athene never visits me these days
Bacchus continues to insist while nightly
Poseidon lumbers across the sea-bed of my soul
Why do we reserve our doubting only for
The God who (as Augustine said)
Is Love — and nothing else?
